IBN's Math for new Ally Xp System

Postby Ziv » 14 Jan 2004 19:48

Let's do some math here, just for kicks.

Let's say I have an allegiance of 13 people, and each of us earns 1 million XP a day, and each of us is optimized for maximum passup.

Let's look at the new system, and a shallow pyramid: the monarch has 12 vassals.

Each vassal passes up 900,000 XP. The monarch, in addition to the 1 million that he got from hunting, gets 10.8 million from the system. The allegiance system has generated 10.8 million XP.

Now let's look at those 12 in a chain under the old system.

The person at the bottom gets 1 million from hunting and passes up 440 thousand. The next person gains that 440k, gets 1 million from hunting, and passes up 853k. The third person gains that 853k, gets 1 million from hunting, and passes up 1.2 million.

Jumping up to the top, the monarch in spot 13 gains about 3.4 million.

Now, sure, that's a lot less than the 10.8 million he'll get in the new system. But! How much XP did that chain generate, total, for ALL members?

27.3 million!

So under the new system, ONE person gets more XP, but the total created for all 13 members is much less. In fact in the new system, all but one of those members gets nothing.

Also take into account that this is optimized for maximum return -- which includes the time sworn modifiers. If folks switch the monarch, they'll lose those modifiers for a while.

Now let's get extreme... let's take this up a notch and look at a monarchy of 157 members.

In the new system, you've got a monarch with 12 vassals, each having 12 vassals of his own. As before, each member makes 1 million from hunting. The 2nd-tier members each earn 10.8 million. They pass-up 1.8 million of that, plus 900k from their own hunting. So that's (1.8 million + 900k)*12 (plus the million from his own hunting) = 141.4 million. Wow, right? The total XP created by the system, for the 13 members who benefit, is about 270 million.

But something to kee in mind... the monarch gets 141 million, and his direct vassals get 10.8 million each, but the other 144 members get zilch.

Now let's look at a chain of 157 members.

The monarch at the top gets 7.3 million. Much MUCH less than the pyramid in the new scheme. But everyone in the chain except for the bottom guy benefits. The total XP generated for all 156 members who benefit?

About a BILLION XP.

The vast majority of people in this chain are getting between 5 and 7 million, as opposed to the flat pyramid in which the majority are getting nothing.

So what is the lesson here? Well... I suppose it is, if you can find a large number of people who are willing to toil underneath you for no XP benefit, you can reap the rewards. However I think the chains showed that people want to be getting a benefit while they are pushing XP upwards.

It will be easier to powerlevel a small number of people, but harder to powerlevel a large number of people.

I got these numbers from a spreadsheet that I created while we were working on the new system. But please, feel free to doublecheck my math
