SPOILER: New Queen...

Postby Ziv » 25 Aug 2007 22:13

The Ward Guardian and Queen are both tough mobs but you can perch the Queen and she has almost no regen. Even without Fester, she was only gaining 1 health pt at a time. She does have 200K health though. She can be debuffed and her defenses aren't very high.

She is difficult to melee. I'm a sword fighter and tried this at first. I got wasted. She chews through normal armor like nothing and even hits very hard through Greater Olthoi Armor and Shield. I tried popping a Melee Defense rare to test out some tactics and found she could even *occasionally* hit me through this -- but only when I was in peace mode and had my back to her as I ran around the room trying to find a good setup spot to pin her.

Fortunately, there's at least two perch spots in the room. I'm not sure I'm allowed to say them here but they do seem to be intentionally designed. So if you have a range attack, you can slowly kill her. I used the composite xbow. The only bodyguards in the room are two Paradox nobles and some grubs. They can be ignored or killed but they do respawn.

On my first serious attempt at her, she spawned 4 Paradox-touched Swarm Evis when she was at 47%. This seems like such an odd health amount that I don't know why they spawned. But it was taking me a *long* time to kill her. Plus I hadn't gotten to her until hours after Guardian died. A new Guardian spawned while I was fighting her so maybe that's why the Evis showed up. They did not show up the second time I fought her and killed her.

One path through the Queen's liar is: After giving your gland, you'll be portalled. From the drop, take the short corridor to the first branch and hang a sharp right. Continue down this long hallway and stick to your left at the next couple of branches. You'll see stairs down. Take them. Continue down the new very long corridor until you come to a small square room with four exits. Take the NE exit. Follow the ramps up and down until you arrive in a large irregular, crescent shaped room. Work to the other side of this room and take the exit. You'll soon arrive in a maze. I didn't manage to map this area as it was very confusing. But the exit is to the west edge of the maze. This will bring you into a mid-sized room with a narrow bridge snaking over acid. Continue over the bridge. From now on the path is linear. Just keep taking the path through the corridor and down the ramps. When you get to the very deep acid pit, you've made it to the Queen. Jump down and you'll hit a portal at the bottom. The Queen is in her own liar. She drops one head and lots of carapaces.

A few people have asked so here's my rough notes (only one of the map links is active, the other two will be active as soon as I finish rough drafts, and will be accurate for the final versions when done):

---1. Coruscating Olthoi Scent Gland
Everyone going will need to pick up at least one gland, they drop off higher level paradox olthoi (evicerators, warriors, nobles, etc). These are found in the valley and burrows around 44.5N 55E.

---2. Convenience Ties
Tie to the surface portal of Olthoi Tunnels at 48N 53E for easy valley access and to Black Death Catacombs 60N 71.1E.

---3. Kill Ward Guardian
Go inside the westernmost burrow at the back of the valley and kill the Ward Guardian at the end, it is the Sentinel Model. This activates the Deeper Catacombs portal for six hours. (When bringing a large group into a burrow it is extremely helpful to go south of the tent, the cliff side dips down very low and you can jump down there. Have someone with high melee jump down first and pull the large groups of olthoi away from the burrow entrance, then the group can enter unimpeded. Don't start fighting until you have gone down several turns into the burrow.)

---4. Deeper Catacombs
From the drop in Black Death Catacombs, travel down the first long ramp, in the large room go to the south side of the room and take the south passage, immediately inside is the Deeper Catacombs portal. At the bottom in the Egg room is an olthoi style door, everyone hands the gland to door and is portaled to the Sealed Olthoi Passage. Mark the time, you have two hours of access. Eggs can be given to an NPC in the tent for xp.

---5. Sealed Olthoi Passage
-From the drop, take the first right, next left, then left going NW.
-Stick right until you come to a square room, take the NE passage.
-At the Y intersection go right, stick to the left until you come to large acid room with a bridge, go across the room (only one way to go across bridge).
-At the Y intersection go right, there will be several 3 way choices that follow, go straight through the middle of all of them.
-When you come to the jump pit you can rebuff there or jump down (the drop is semi-safe) don't attack anything or move off platform until ready to attack the queen.

---6. Paradox-touched Olthoi Queen
You land on a small ledge facing a large acid filled room with the Queen at the far side of the room. The queen can be dragged up onto the ledge to avoid fighting in the acid. Dedicated healers are very helpful, the queen can cast creature, life and item debuffs (takes buffs off weapons). She also casts Canker, a level VIII undispellable acid vuln, it's recommended to stop fighting until the 1 minute vuln drops. She is true hollow so it isn't recommended for anyone not wearing armor high in natural AL to pierce or acid primarily, slash and fire secondarily, to attack or debuff the queen. They can heal, restore stamina, restore buffs lost to debuffing, or perhaps form safety walls.

Anyone that dies can return quickly by going to a burrow east of the valley at 44.5N 57.3E. There is a portal inside behind a closed door that returns you immediately to the queen chamber (if you still have an active scent gland). The door is opened by using a small lever item in the far right corner of the queen room (someone will have to leave the ledge and run over to use the lever when someone is at the door waiting to get in).

The queen respawns quickly so it is important that anyone that dies shortly before her death gets back quickly to loot a carapace (she spawns near the lever making it dangerous to use again if she has respawned).

---7. Return to the valley Tent at 43.8N 54.9E and give the Carapace to Wintermaine for a token. The token can be given to Wintermaine for xp, or given to one of the NPCs in a rubble strewn side passage in the northermost burrow inside the valley. The NPCs hold the reward they give for easy ID.

Remember, if you are reading this post right away, only one of the map links is active, the others will become active when at least a rough draft is finished, and will point to the finished maps once they have been completed.
